Since the Academy  was born in San Diego as El Mundo Del Tango on Monday December 27 , 1993 the overarching Philosophy was, is, and always will be to teach Students, Amateurs, or Professionals, DANCE - PRINCIPLES rather than steps -patterns. The Tango-Dance evolves constantly as we have witnessed in the last two decades, but the PRINCIPLES and the BASICS will  always remain untouchable. El Mundo Del Tango, under the direction of Maestro Ive Simard, the Founder, developed the Art of Tango from the ground up in Southern California with their Headquarters in

La Jolla, San Diego, which was virgin territory in those years. With hard work, persistance, and complete dedication, the  ONLY TANGO ARGENTINO  Academy  in USA, dedicated exclusively to the Tango Dance was  established. A faculty of seven teachers was trained meticulously under  a well designed Master Program, utilizing the first authentic complete syllabus / syllabi, in the all world, created by Maestro Ive Simard. This syllabus was the culmination of 36 years of research divided in 10 volumes and covering 3 levels in Tango, Milonga, Vals Cruzado and Pecho Argentino.

  In 1996, El  Mundo Del Tango  moved into a facility of 4000 square feet on Miramar Road. With a faculty of twenty seven teachers and operating seven days a week, El Mundo Del Tango Academy  ran  regular classes from strictly beginner to intermediate and advanced levels,  as well as professional classes and workshops. EMDT hosted Milongas every Saturday for 636 weeks in a row up until August 12, 2008 when El Mundo Del Tango relocated to a more Central Location in Mission Bay  to the well known San Diego Landmark “ TANGO DEL REY “ Performing Art Center.

EMDT had a long history by holding special workshops  on a regular basis lead by reputable Masters and instructors from the Tango birthplace in Rio de la Plata; the river which separated Bueno Aires and Montevideo where the Tango-dance was christened: Tango   RIOPLATENSE.

Many renowed instructors visited the academy frequently, such as : Orlando Paiva Senior and Orlando Paiva Junior, Melina Plebz, Osvaldo Zotto, Pupi Castillo, Sandor y Parissa, Daniel Lapadula, Pampa Cortez, Sergio Cortazzo, Gachi Fernandez, Rodolfo and Gloria Dinzel, Nestor y Patricia Ray, Jorge Torres, Marcella Duran, Myrem Larricci, Alberto Toledano, Jorge Firpo, Facundo and Kelly Posadas , The late Pulpo Noberto Estrez, Guillermo Merlo, Fernanda Ghi, Cecilia Saia , Eduardo and Gloria Amquibeau, Guillermina Quiroga, Armando Orzuza, Daniala Arcuri, Andrea Misse, Hugo Patin, Marcus Quevas, Nathalia Hill, Ezequiel Farfaro, and Jorge Nel, to name a few.

Accreditated by the Argentine tango Master Association ( ATMA ), the majority of San Diego Tango teachers began as normal  students at El Mundo Del Tango, taking their first steps in a general class known at that time as Salon One .  There they learned all the Basic principles and the Fundamentals, then gradually gained Knowledge and Skill , some more, some less , and after several years they joined, by invitation, the Master Program and Graduated from the  Argentine Tango Master Association (ATMA ). Today El Mundo Del Tango keep training Students, Amateurs, and Professionals with the same Philosophy. “ A Beginner student shoud be taught by a Beginner teacher “  There is no other way around it, said Maestro Ive Simard who is himself as an accomplished world class dancer , with a career of 67 years of dancing and 58 years of teaching /educating.

EMDT in collaboration with ATMA  and Maestro Simard  are now working to establish a Tango University for children and a developpement of a Phd. in Tango .

EMDT also created recently an experimental program for Autistic Children under the direction of Maestro Ive simard
